Teachers and Coaches - Consider Self Esteem Boosters for Your Kids
As a teacher or coach, you've seen it: a child or two in your class or on your team that you have a hard time reaching; you know these kids have the potential to be winners but they either don't have the self esteem or the motivation to be a great student or team player. A good way to boost self esteem is to use medals, trophies and other forms of recognition. A child that may not come in a winner in a race will certainly shine with pride if they win a medal for "Trying Hardest" or "Best Effort" or even "Most Improved Player". All of these are accomplishments worth being proud of. You can use blank medals and have them engraved with phrases relevant to your individual needs.
A good idea to further make the giving of an award or medal even more special is to have a special get together where you call the children that are receiving awards up and let them get their award in front of everyone. Whether you choose a trophy they can proudly display on their shelf or a medal to hang around their necks at the ceremony and later displayed proudly in their homes, it's a great way to give a kid a self esteem boost.
Part of participating in sports and class is to realize not everyone be a winner every single time, but good efforts should always be rewarded.
